About this deal

Pentru că a fost ajutat, Șen își dorește să o ajute și el pe Sika și altfel pornesc împreună în marea cursă, înhămându-i pe toi cei 66 de mopși la sanie. Philip has also written Buster Bayliss, a series for younger readers, and stand alone novels including Here Lies Arthur, which won the Carnegie Medal. He discovers the Po of Ice (not what it seems), and pledges to help Sika take her grandfather's sledge in a race to meet the Snowfather, who can grant wishes. The ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’ is another terrific tale from the incredibly talented Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre. She agrees to look after the dogs so long as they can be part of a sledging competition in which the winner is granted their heart's desire.

While fantasy and imaginative fictional characters fill “Pugs of the Frozen North”, the actual topics addressed are familiar and relevant. Fear of abandonment and disaster, and the need for family and friends are important to the target age group. If you’d like tips on how to make comics, I've has created a series of comic-making videos for Book Trust. McIntyre and Reeve must work incredibly closely on this since all pages are a delight to look at and read. Meillä ei koirat kiinnosta yhtään, mutta tämän kirjan 66 mopsia olivat juuri sopivasti aivan sivuosassa. an engaging story for children (and, in my case at least, adults) who have the ability to read alone but aren't yet ready to give up the pleasure of heavily illustrated books.

Reeve and McIntyre collaborate on their third wacky adventure story, this time set in the frozen north. Well, I've read it, I just know that the children will LOVE it and I have also decided that if we're going to get as much enjoyment out of it as it has to offer, it's going to need more than two weeks! Reeve drives his juggernaut of a talent through the streets of a mob-crazed futuristic London with Cecil B DeMille grandeur. I know I certainly enjoyed it when I "previewed" it, and I am well, well past the target age for these books (or the Mortal Engines books for that matter).

In the early part of the book, Captain Jeggings, who is drawn as being maybe Mongonlian (definitely vaguely Asian) makes a reference to the cargo of 66 pugs selling not like hot pies, but in hot pies and it just felt really racially insensitive. Reeve does an excellent job of mixing the ordinary (pugs wearing sweaters albeit a LOT of pugs, wearing a LOT of sweaters) with the not so ordinary (singing snow, or noodle eating yetis). Shen and Sika are great protagonists (and I coded Sika and her family as Inuit or some other northern indigenous people which is nice). Despite the best efforts of the conniving Sir Basil and lots of hazards that get in their way Shen and Sika finally reach their destination the icicle palace of the Snowfather. There's also more of a chance that children would want to read each other's work if it's in comic form, and the kids would have to work on making their comics read clearly to each other.
