About this deal

She finds him interesting and follows him and has a fun time helping him and even finds her own voice for the first time.

Now that I have my very own copy, I’m so excited to be able to share my thoughts about it with the world. The world of this story feels deep and somewhat heavy, but the overall tone isn’t one of fear or danger thanks to Little Echo herself, whose large round ears and sweet face are instantly appealing.A little boy goes on a treasure hunt, entering some caves he is followed by an echo - a cute furry animal with big ears. Vaguely defined but expressive shapes and visible brushstrokes strengthen the tale’s atmosphere of longing, while the cave itself, depicted with broad swaths of dark shades, reflects Echo’s sense of isolation. The artwork effectively brings to life the succinct, rhyming text and will help readers make sense of it. When he gets into danger the little echo plucks up the courage to do something other than repeat the last things people say!

I was over the moon when I discovered it was being published by Puffin Books and couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy! This is a cute story about building friendship - it tells about little Echo who is too shy to use her own voice, so she just echoes other animals and visitors to herh home (a cave). It has richly textured pictures, with layered brushstrokes of meadow and thunderstorm, and animals conjured in a few fine lines. Now obviously there is no such thing as a Little Echo, but to small children it is a super cute way to introduce them to echoes and when they get older they will learn what really causes those repeated sounds, but for now this is charming.

I like the way Max and Little Echo accept each other and work together--as any good adventure team would. A charming little story that will teach young readers about how to be brave and speak up, and how to help others around us, and perhaps most importantly that sometimes people around us are shy and scared but that doesn't mean they don't want to be friends! Little Echo captured the hearts and imaginations of all at Puffin, and it’s been my utter privilege to work with Al on bringing his beautiful, original work out into the world. Little Echo (represented in a illustration as a mouse) is a tiny and timid creature that lives in a large cave. And the lesson is great too: you must be brave to make friends, and it is not easy to overcome fears, but it is so worth it!
