About this deal

Once a millionaire/billionaire makes a public appearance wearing his favorite watch piece, it immediately becomes legendary. Bill probably has other watches in his collection, but if you have a love for CASIO, you have it forever. Microsoft’s creator hints that simple, reliable watches are still in business, despite the abundance of technology in the industry. It’s more of a message to critics who believe that simple watches have been outdated and have no right to exist. Judging by the popularity of vintage CASIO representatives, CASIO simple watches will continue to be in business for a long time. The Casio MDV106 is an extremely simple and clean design, with a monochromatic color scheme. This makes it perfect for pairing with just about any watch strap of your choosing.

They’ve since been “replaced” by Seiko’s newer Seiko 5 Sports divers. While not as iconic, and with only a 100m water resistance rating instead of 200m, you might have an easier time sourcing one of these new Seiko 5 Sports Divers instead of an SKX. Orient Kamasu / Mako / Ray Similar to the MDV106, they also have 200m water resistance. They also have the added bonus of being ISO Certified, which means they pass a certain set of requirements to be considered a professional dive watch. While I’ve never actually been diving with mine, just knowing how tough and robust my SKX009 is sure gives me a feeling of confidence (and watch snobbery) when on my wrist. I wonder about the reason for this decision. The guys at hodinky-365.com assume CASIO ran out of licenses to use the logo. Hmm, I doubt that’s a problem for such a giant, although CASIO might not consider having a marlin on display as something essential. What I can’t help mentioning is the presence of a second hand. It makes the spectacle more impressive. The watch is very pleasing to the eye, fits nicely on the wrist, is a bit heavy, but very comfortable. It will work for 3 years with the original battery. Overall the dial is perfect and simple enough to tell the time easily, while still being interesting enough to look at for even a collector like myself who has a half-dozen other dive watches in his collection. Hands Before moving on to these differences, I would like to recall one reason for the popularity of this series. Many blog readers already know this cause, which hides under the name “Bill Gates”. Since I spend most of my time behind a desk, and NOT diving or swimming, that doesn’t bother me one bit. The cool points of a leather strap are well worth it. Bring on the flame, watch nerds! Spend a bit more than the Casio MDV106 price tag and you enter the world of amazing affordable automatic dive watches.

The movement is a Japanese quartz movement that runs on an SR626 battery, with a battery life of 2-3 years. As you can see, neither the Duro’s rotating bezel nor its screw-down crown are sharp-edged. There’s a reason why Rolex and other high-end divers cost more than 200 times more than this Casio. The closer you get, the better they look. But the longer you wear the Casio, the less you care. I would get slaughtered in the comments if I didn’t mention one of Citizen’s best affordable dive watches, the Citizen Promaster. Whichever strap you choose, just be sure to get one with a 22mm width, as that’s the lug width of the MDV. It does have one safety benefit over sapphire, however, as a mineral crystal will not break and shatter like the glass of a sapphire crystal might, if under extreme stress, making it less dangerous in the case of a breakageThe MDV-107 differs from its family member [MDV-106] by having a colored bezel [or more color variations] and NOT having the Marlin logo. While the presence of the new red and blue color of the bezel is a joy, the absence of the marlin is a bit embarrassing.

It is a great pleasure to see the continuation of watch development in the model range of simple but excellent products under the MDV name. The MDV-107 series can hardly be called a new product because it is, in fact, a copy of the famous Duro Marlin MDV-106, but with minimal differences. The watch is also very similar to the diver’s line of other “mechanical” brands [hinting at SEIKO, ROLEX and the like]. All traditional elements are present in the watch: large heavy steel case with a large functional bezel, large hour marks [for readability under water], luminescent coating, large hands, and polyurethane strap. So if you want to enjoy a quartz alternative to the classic divers, the MDV-107 will help you do that.

While it doesn’t have any fancy features, nor an automatic movement, it has 200 meters of water resistance, making it more than capable of swimming or diving, without having to worry about water damage.

The Vostok Amphibia is such a fun watch. It was made for the Russian Military, so you know it’s durable and tough. But it also comes in a variety of fun and colorful designs featuring military vehicles and such. It has markings in increments of 5, and 10, as well as a lume pip that, once charged up, illuminates in the dark, helping with orientation. The rubber strap included with the Duro is nothing to write home about. It’s certainly wearable, and waterproof, but isn’t all that comfortable to wear for long periods of time, especially in warmer weather.

They’re waterproof, and typically all brushed, hiding scratches very well. With a sports watch like the MDV106, you might wear it doing any number of physical activities, so having that extra bit of scratch resistance is always a good thing. Bill Gates’ Watch It also has an impressive rebranded automatic Seiko movement ( NH35A), which are known for its quality and durability. Casio MDV106B My guess is that the synthetic rubber material used isn’t the most breathable, as some more natural rubber options would be.
