About this deal

A Touch of Darkness” by Scarlett St. Clair introduces PersephonE, a goddess of spring that seems to have lost her powers. She lives in New Athens and is in college where she is a senior student interning at a news agency as she waits to graduate with her degree in journalism. Away from her overbearing mother, she thinks that she finally found something she is great at. But her freedom is threatened by the nymphs that her mother sent to spy on her. They are just waiting and hoping that she will make a mistake so that they can swoop in and take her to the greenhouse prison. When she goes on a night out in town, she meets Hades and they come to an understanding. From then on, she goes on a journey of discovery of love, her powers and the place of people like her in the world of the gods and mortals. The good thing about Persephone is that even when she is without her powers, she is not your classic damsel in distress. Instead, she stands up for herself when pushed and calls out anyone including herself for their bullshit. I’d survived an encounter with a vampire who had tasted my blood, and the worst part about it was that he’d been right.

Far too many fantasy series tend to treat women as supporting figures: Love interests, damsels to be rescued, victims of violence, or passive figures who must spend their lives reacting to the action happening around them. But St. Clair had a very particular vision for the sort of heroine she wanted King of Battle and Blood’s Isolde to be—and it wasn’t any of those things. IT SEEMED TOO OBVIOUS that Adrian and Isolde had some weird and historical connection. It felt like it was supposed to be this mysterious reveal but to me all the foreshadowing just had me rolling my eyes This book is not perfect what you would call fine literature. Its just some trashy entertainment for people like me and that's why i enjoyed it. there were some plot holes here and there and some twists were kinda obvious but i enjoyed it nonetheless But her assassination attempt is thwarted and Adrian threatens that if Isolde tries kill him again, he will raise her as the undead. Faced with the possibility of becoming the thing she hates most, Isolde seeks other ways to defy him and survive the brutal vampire court. ⠀There's no way Isolde's father would try to kill her. He legit was going to go to war so she didn't have to marry Adrian. Also, wouldn’t he trust his daughter and talk with her about why she hasn’t tried killing Adrian? Isolde was supposed to be queen of Lara, so I feel like her father would respect her enough to have a conversation about all this. Not just make a rash decision to kill her bc it would lead to Adrian’s death as well. I hate how Isolde de Lara has been demonstrated. She was first introduced as a brown skin woman, who likes sex a lot, can fight ( either defending herself or abusing someone else, cough husband, cough), and get jealous easily but a the same time, demands respect. This books is nothing new (taylor reference yes) but actually a combination of good parts of FBAA, Shadows between us and TVD. I loved the whole witchy vibe in the second half

She stabs him , he survives , everyone thinks its cute and is amused as she is flustered . hardy har har , cuuuteee 😊😒 It was said Adrian angered Dis, goddess of spirit, and as a result, she cursed him to crave blood. Her curse spread—some humans survived the transformation to vampire while others did not. Since their incarnation, the world had not known peace. Their presence had bred other monsters—all kinds that fed on blood, on life. While I had never known anything different, our elders did. They remembered a world without high walls and gates around every village. They remembered what it was like not to fear wandering beneath the stars as darkness fell. I did not fear the dark. I did not fear the monsters. I did not even fear the Blood King. But I did fear for my father, for my people, for my culture. Because Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev was inevitable.” I still don't understand the reincarnation stuff. When did he make this bargain with the goddess Dis? I need to know more.

Why does Isolde drinking Adrian's blood mean their lifelines are tied together? It's a curse but tell me more about it. I think that you have to really be very mindful about how you use sex in your plot. It’s part of the character arc of this person. And Isolde went from just kind of exploring and having fun and whatever to being with one person. And she maybe teases him at first but she learns through all of this what kind of relationship she actually wants to have.” ISOLDE WAS GREAT and I thought she was written as a strong and interesting morally-grey character. You could tell from her mannerisms and the way she spoke that she was actually raised to lead and be a queen. Again, I imagine this book is absolutely going to hit its mark amongst the audience it’s intended for, and I *was* absolutely entertained. But personally, the woman vs. woman subplots were frustrating and degraded the women in this book. I hope you enjoy the first chapter of KBB! The entire book is out in November, and I can’t wait to talk to you more about it then!

If you were a fan of The Bridge Kingdom but wanted it much smuttier and more magical (aka: Vampires), you will ADORE this book because it gave me VERY similar vibes.I thought this would be like FBAA (barf) but actually, this was better. It had good plot and good smut
