About this deal

In 1998, Boneyard Press published Stephen Elliott's first novel, Jones Inn. [10] Boneyard had previously published some of Elliott's poetry in the Flowers on the Razorwire comics anthology. Boneyard operated from 1991 to 2003. Loners Are Freaks: Freaks of the " awkward, bespectacled, roadkill collecting/dissecting, alcoholic, Class Clown, closeted-homosexual, future Serial Killer" variety. This could have been a much more powerful book if Derf confronted his own cruelty more directly. He keeps pointing the finger at "the adults" but seems oblivious to how painful making another kid a joke-mascot might have been. There is a scene near the end where he and a friend use Dahmer for their amusement, and discuss right in front of Dahmer how they are going out to a movie together without Dahmer. I felt like throwing the book across the room at that point. It's not that Derf and his friends' behavior is unusual for teens, but that he could have made some poignant points about sensitivity, kindness and bullying, if he had been braver about looking at his own younger self. [23] The suit was soon dismissed by a Milwaukee judge. [24] [8] This book shows a more detailed insight into Jeff's psyche as he slowly loses his mind, eventually becoming a full-blown case of this.

I Hate Past Me: Derf doesn't hate his teenage self, per se, but he is terribly embarrassed by how ridiculously insensitive he and his friends could be.Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Double-Subversion in Jeff. On one hand, he does become one of the grisliest serial killers in modern history. However, he's presented somewhat semi-sympathetically (at first) in the comic and comes off more as a Reluctant Psycho than a gleeful sadist. Drowning My Sorrows: The more and more his necrophiliac fantasies take shape, the more and more Jeff depends on the bottle to keep them at bay. Soon he is showing up late to class (if at all) and stinking of booze, but the faculty at Revere are apparently none the wiser. EDIT: I had to update the review to include that Jeff Dahmer was a serial killer, a friend of mine - The novel depicts the author's teenage friendship with Jeffrey Dahmer, who later became an infamous serial killer, during his time at Eastview Junior High and Revere High School. The story follows Dahmer from age 12 up to, but not including, his first murder, two weeks after high school graduation.
