You’ve probably already gathered by its name that it’s the Prime 4’s kid brother. As such, the Prime 2 has got lots of the same DJ features, just in a slimmer size. While shopping for your ideal DJ controller, it’s essential to define your level of DJing proficiency. Lower-end models are barebones with limited creative tools. Entry-level DJ controllers have 2-channels with few or no effects, loops, hot cues, and sampling.

For some DJs, the Denon Prime 4 might be too much to handle – both literally and figuratively. Professional DJs best use the controller’s features, and the all-metal body is hefty to handle.

In the introduction, I mentioned how the current generation of stand-alone units require media analysed by a computer, and you maybe confused to learn that Denon DJ has its own software that it recommends you use with your music before using the Prime 4. However, whereas the competition at the moment relies on you doing this before a vast majority of performance features are at all possible, the Prime 4 has it’s own built-in processor and can actually perform the analysis on the fly should you skip the computer part. Using Rekordbox, Serato and Traktor on the Prime 4 Yes, as of Serato DJ Pro v2.3.1, the PRIME 4 is now fully compatible. Please note this requires PRIME 4 firmware version 1.3.3 for full compatibility. Another difference between the jogwheels on these two units is that the XDJ-XZ jogwheel is mechanical while the Prime 4 has a capacitive jogwheel. The mechanical XDJ-XZ jogwheel is the same as what you would find on the club-standard, and much more expensive, CDJ-2000 Nexus 2. So if you are looking for jogwheels that mimic what you may find in many of the larger clubs in the world, the XDJ-XZ delivers at a fraction of the price. If you are more comfortable using the type of jogwheels found on the majority of modern controllers the Prime 4 may be the way you want to go. Effects When the prime 4 was first released I wanted one. All in one mixer, Controller and computer. And the added ability to use it on Virtual DJ 2020 was also a added bonus. As a mobile DJ there will be times I need functions on virtual DJ that the prime doesn't have, so to be able to put it into controller mode was a mega bonus.
