This text does not tell a story but states the Rights which each person has. Each illustration complements the Right, and each illustrator is done in a different style, by a different illustrator. Our huge ivory trade campaign, including a petition of 600,000 signatures, contributed to CITES imposing an international commercial ivory trade ban. Pan 70 - Sharing the Joy of Reading Since 1947". However, such is life, and at no time during the read did i feel resentful towards the author, for she was just being faithful to the events, rather than choosing to gloss over the more tedious bits. Most popular star for third time." Times [London, England] 31 December 1966: 5. The Times Digital Archive. Web. 16 Sept. 2013. The book that perhaps did most to inspire a generation to learn more about natural history and to support the work of conservation. When the film of Born Free was made it was.phenomenally powerful. I must have been about 8 or 9 when I first saw it and I have never forgotten it. To read Joy's own words as she talks about Elsa and her cubs is a very moving experience. Of course Jot Adamson was a driven woman who often or roughshod over the feelings of those nearest to her, but this should not diminish her vision and achievements. Her tragic death, murdered by someone who knew her for a while overshadowed this but as time recedes we can out that too into a clearer perspective. A story of Elsa a lion cub raised and loved by Joy and George. A telling of the hardship for both Elsa and her human family. It seemed at times to be unattainable and a failure. The life for Elsa was torn between that of being a pet or living a free life in the wild as she was meant to have. The steps in her life are told in many fun and hard adventures. Elsa finally is her own lioness but she never forgets her human family. Each article is accompanied by pictures by a different children’s illustrator, which really adds to the concept of individuality and differences being welcome and encouraged.

The final part of the book follows Joy, George and the cubs as they move the cubs and try to get them to live independently. Some years later, Joy and George soon have to travel to Kiunga as George has been told by his boss, John Kendall (Geoffrey Keen) about a lion who is killing goats in a local village. George successfully manages to kill the lion and he and Joy are able to share a special holiday with Elsa, where they introduce her to the Indian Ocean. On returning to the Northern Province, the Adamsons learn that Elsa has caused a massive elephant stampede. Kendall states that the Adamsons can no longer keep Elsa and must find a zoo to take her in. However, Joy instead wishes to teach Elsa how to survive in the wild, which Kendall reluctantly gives her and George three months to do. Our support for Animals Asia began, with the aim of stopping exploitation of moon bears, cruelly milked for their bile, and providing care for rescued bears in sanctuaries in China and Vietnam. Lastly, it was all together hard for me to forget the fact that the story is based on a mistake that they failed to correct - shooting Elsa's mother. She failed to let go of Elsa once she was independent, and repeated the same mistake with the cubs. When the time inevitably came, Joy and George made the hard decision to release Elsa into the wild. After finding a suitable location, they spent a lot of time teaching Elsa to hunt for herself. They would make camp, spend time with Elsa, and then leave her on her own for a day, then a couple of days, then a week at a time. She was always happy to see them on their return, while at the same time growing more and more self-sufficient. Elsa's story started the wild animal rights to live wild and free and ends in a very real legacy left by both Elsa and the Adamson's. A sensitively treated and sumptuously illustrated exploration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for young children.' The bond between Elsa and Joy is amazing. I loved how clearly the lions' personalities were shown throughout the book. Their antics thoroughly amused me, and their harships made me sad.

I've been a fan of Elsa the lioness since I was young. I have seen the movie multiple times, but this is my first experience with the book. I loved it! Altough the movie is nice, the book gives a new perspective to Elsa's life. I loved how detailed it was and there were pictures - that really helped me to get a nice vision. I got seriously attached to Elsa. I was expecting something like The Lion King but then I remembered real life isn't a Disney movie. What an incredibly impactful book. Elsa's story is as inspiring as it is heartbreaking. Her legacy continues to inspire millions of people around the world.
