About this deal

The UniFi 6 Enterprise is a great access point if you need to support a lot of clients and want to be ready for the future. But for most home users, the Enterprise access point is overkill. In this case, the device is unable to resolve the controller. The controller should be available on https://unifi:8443. If that is working then there is a reason why the Unifi AP can’t connect to it. It might be in the wrong IP range (that was the problem in this case), or it can be a DNS issue. If you need to extend your wireless network, but don’t have the room for an extra network cable, then you can use an UniFi BeaconHD. It’s basically a repeater for your wireless network. It’s better to place a normal access point connected with an Ethernet cable, but if that really isn’t an option then you can use a repeater. The antenna design of the HD is different compared to the other UniFi access points. It’s designed to cover a lot of clients in a small area. So the wireless network won’t spread as far as the other access points. Keep that in mind when you are placing the UniFi HD. After I had a bit of a learning curve, I got four of the UAP-AC-PRO's working nicely, with a few rookie mistakes to start with. These replaced two higher end ASUS routers that were configured as AP's.

I am looking to extend the WiFi coverage of my company. We currently have installed 3 Ubiquiti devices (x3 Unifi UAP-AC-Pro, x1 Unifi UAP-AC-LR) on 2.4GHz radio. I am planning to change to only 5GHz radio due to the on going interference issue with 2.4 radio, from our customer’s 2.4 WiFi network. Could you advise which models we should go to cover the entire manufacturing building of 80,000sqf?Range. I don't know if the Google WiFi would have really blown this thing out of the water, but all I can say is, for me, for what I wanted, this thing gets 5 stars in range, definitely better than my previous setup. I get signal throughout my whole 1100sqft apartment. Now that I have the Ubiquity Controller software and the four AP's configured, I can see why these can be a valuable asset to get coverage in a larger building. You are able to roam to the various AP's and they do have the ability to choose the least congested channels if you are in a multi-tenant building. The software even allows you to scan/test all the channels to get a picture of the environment. The Controller software is designed for the full line of Ubiquiti products, however it equally supports environments with just AP's. But the setup was initially somewhat painful and roundabout for me, even as someone who's quite experienced. Normally for in-house use would the 2 lite ap’s be more than enough. Personally, I always use an LR on the ground floor (so it extends also a bit into the garden) and a lite on the first floor. With an apartment, two lite’s would be enough. I already owned an Unifi US-8-150w POE switch with the Network Controller hosted on raspberry pi. Recently was given a new Unifi UAP-AC Lite (not the new wifi 6 version), which specs show on 5ghz can do up to 850mb/s, so decided to switch to using it and decommission the Netgear router.

If it's a throughput measurement, what is the reported link speed? An easy way to get this is with "netsh wlan show interfaces" at a command prompt on the end device (if Windows) The Mesh Pro has 3 dual-band antennas, making it capable of reaching higher speeds. But the 3 antennas make it also a good base station for your outdoor mesh network. With a mesh network is one radio used to talk to the other access point (creating a wireless bridge), and the other is used to connect to the clients. So I pulled the trigger and bought one of these instead of the Google WiFi. After receiving it and setting it up, I have to say I couldn't be happier. Google WiFi may be a great product, but I feel it's more for the typical "hipster" masses than for an Engineer like me. I will definitely say that while the Ubiquiti Unifi isn't enterprise Cisco type of complexity to setup, but it is definitely more advanced than your average person who doesn't consider themselves computer savvy. While this does require software to setup and run these APs, it is different in that it runs more as a server software that can be made to run all the time to control these. However, it gives you the flexibility to install this anywhere you want, so you don't have to have it installed as a piece of server software on your desktop, and maybe install it on a file server you may have on your network if you prefer (I'm thinking of doing it on a raspberry Pi myself). Also the software doesn't need to be running all the time for the AP to function, just to make changes, or do monitoring of the APs. So for now I just fire it up when I need to make a change. Java is needed to use the Ubiquity Controller software and if you want to run it as a service, so that it starts automatically, you need the 64bit version of Java. (Which also means Windows needs to be the 64bit version.) You will need to search the internet on how to configure it to run as a service.

At the moment of writing is this really the goto access point from Ubiquiti for outdoor installation. The advantage of the UniFi Mesh models is that they have antennas that are designed for long-range mesh performance. Making them great to cover large outdoor areas. Keep in mind that wired is always better, but that is outdoors not always an option.

To correct my errors he Reset the settings and set the controller network. Than he added the device as controller assisted access point. The UniFi HD is designed for high-density environments, like a school or concert venue. The UniFi HD has two ethernet ports, where 1 port can be used to bridge to another access point or as an extra uplink. When installing the Ubiquity Controller software on a Windows PC, disable the Windows Firewall, as the install does not open all the necessary ports needed to see and configure the AP's. If you want to use the firewall, you will need to search the internet for the ports that will need to be opened and there are several. But make sure that that the wireless network signal strength is strong enough where you place the beacon. Because if you BeaconHD has a poor connection, then the clients downstream won’t benefit at all. I hope this post helped you to reset Unifi AP to its factory defaults and then you can adapt it again in your controller. This for this post, you”re not so lazy admin because you took the time to write a blog that help sb 2 years later. If 1000 concurrent clients are not enough then we have the UniFi XG as the last step. This access point is designed for very high-density environments, think of concert halls or large auditoriums, where you have a lot of people in a really small space. It's perfect if you wish to add an AP to dead zones, I've set one up on the second floor right in the epicentre of all rooms and its fantastic, great strong coverage through a feet of concrete and mortar, I will add a second one to my outdoor enclosed patio for maximum coverage in the garden too, great product, I'm amazed by it There is no web interface on the AP's. If you aren't going to use the Controller software, then you can configure them using the iOS or Android app, but it doesn't allow you do much more than the basics. You would need to use the SSH command shell to get more granular. Outdated firmware – If the firmware on the access point is too old, it won’t connect to the controller.

So another guy asking the same question: Which access point on which floor? Two smaller ones or one long range per story? In this article, I will explain the different methods to reset your UniFi AP. Using the Reset ButtonYou can also place the U6-LR in a semi-outdoor environment because it’s IP54 rated. If your house has multiple floors, or when you can only place one access point, then the U6-LR is a really good choice to mount on the ground floor (and use the lite models for the other levels).
