While the bass doesn't hit super hard, there are enough amount of them to give body to the music. The slight mid-bass hump is enough to gave some warmth to vocals and mids but never intrude into the mids region. Overall, Hifiman has hit the mark with the Ananda Nano in terms of comfort, fit, and design. I would love to see them transition from plastic to aluminum alloy chassis in the future, but it seems that this will remain a potential improvement for another day. It’s nothing new that Hifiman’s headphones use planar magnetic drivers. But thanks to improving this technology for years now, and having Dr. Fang Bian as the “brain” of its technology department, we can state that Hifiman products are probably the most technically advanced headphones in the world.It’s virtually impossible not to have heard of Hifiman. This bold audio company, led by Dr. Fang Bian, was established in 2005. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of using many of the company’s remarkable products, such as the HM801, HM901s, HE-560, and HE-6. These devices were all legendary in their own right, setting gold standards in their respective eras. I still vividly recall the first time I heard the liquid, sweet sound of the HM801, which evoked a flood of memories. Time truly does fly. The HiFiMAN Ananda have been quite a successful model for HiFiMAN, thanks to their high performance, good design and great comfort coupled with a price that’s high but not quite out of this world. They’re lovely headphones that take the interesting bits from the higher-end models such as the Arya or the Edition X and make them more affordable. They’re constantly talked about as a benchmark for their price range – so let’s see how they perform! The treble of Ananda is clean, slightly wet in character, like most of their sound, and they present music enjoyable, the treble is natural in balance to the bass and the midrange, never being too much, making them natural rather than bright or hot headed. The treble is the best part for a headphone as well balanced as Ananda, and it helps give contour to the musical and sweet presentation they give to music. This is one of my favorite headphones for sure, and it is worthy to consider if you can't afford the Arya Stealth which is a bit more detailed and precise, or if you want a sweeter and richer sound than Arya Stealth. The sound of Arya is more upbeat, while the sound of Ananda is relaxed and smoother, and those are words that you can use to generally describe Ananda, smooth and relaxed. This song is mildly compressed to my ears, there is some imaging there but the song does not benefit from the soundstage of the Ananda that much, because due to its compression or how it was recorded, it seems to be leaner in the mid range, the Ananda with this song might place the mids a little to recessed, resulting in having to turn up the volume a bit to get satisfactory vocal volume. The Sundara is more engaging and cohesive with this particular song, likely a result of the way the song was recorded. The presentation of the Hifiman Ananda is one that does live up to the price you are paying. They arrive in a beautiful leather covered box, inside a cardboard sleeve, that opens to reveal the headphones in silk lined fitted shape. In the center there is a foam type shape that covers the remaining contents.

The Bottom Line: The HiFiMan Ananda headphones deliver stunning audio performance, providing a superb sense of space and detail." Hex V2 doesn't handle louder volumes as well as the Ananda though but don't expect Ananda to let you crank it up like a HE series oldschool Hifiman, which not only sustain much more power but are more dynamic as well and therefore also give you a better reason to crank it up. Ananda and Hex V2's compressed dynamics don't allow for the "startling effect" anyway. This startling effect describes the explosive power of the HE-6 to fire at you from total darkness, nothingness with a hail of supernovae. I'm exaggerating here but you might understand what I mean. Also for those able to modify the HE-500, a well done one like mine also buries the Ananda in musicality and proper tone.What do these headphones excel at? Incredible micro detail, speed, and accurate full tones. The combination lends itself to critical listening without the music ever becoming too cold or sterile. Introduction​It is no secret that we really adore Hifiman here at Ear Fidelity. It really isn’t surprising, as it is one of the leading (if not THE leading) headphones manufacturer in the current hifi market. I’ve said it a couple of times – they really do offer a fantastic price/performance ratio in almost every budget, starting with their 400i 2020, Arya, 1000se (review coming), and…the Ananda.
