About this deal

If you’re using a boom as well, you’ll likely need another set of hands to help out with the recording. Thanks to the removable tip and separately available cable sets, the QP5100 can easily be configured for internal cabling, no soldering required. Shotgun mics can be a great solution for eliminating unwanted ambient noise and using a boom arm means you’ll be able to get a great take without the need for any microphones or equipment to come into shot. This boom pole uses the same carbon fiber materials as our top choice. It is incredibly durable (we tested it) and very lightweight. You won't have to worry about arm fatigue if you're shooting long sessions. Padded hand grips work really well, no matter what shape your hands are in.

This standard position is great for moving the microphone around and gives you good flexibility. The big downside is the physical demand of holding the mike and pole this way for extended periods. So to save your muscle pain you can move to a less strenuous position, like this: Landscape rakes are also useful for leveling and grading soil for planting preparation. I used one when I built my house to do the final grading after the bulldozer finished the rough grade. In fact the landscape rake has many different uses such as: Walk the land you want to maintain and look for the largest brush and trees you will need to cut. Let’s say we’ve got poplar saplings up to 1″ in diameter growing in the trails through the wood lot. In my experience, the way it works on a regular film set is the camera crew set up the shot. Now the sound crew pops up and tries to set up around them, to the undisguised irritation of a camera crew… haha just kiddin (or am I?).Rigid, light and strong, they benefit from the most recent technologies in carbon fibre winding and the experience of thirty-five successful years of supplying the most demanding operators. Shotgun mics are also great for vlogging and for mobile recording where you don’t necessarily even need a boom. This pole features an internally coiled cable and an XLR connection at the base of the pole. A total of 5 sections telescope between 2.2 to 8.8', and will easily store in any standard equipment case. The way a shotgun mic captures the sound and helps reject off-axis sound is actually quite fascinating. If your boom is too long, your audio quality and arms will suffer with the increased distance to the talent and weight of the pole after prolonged use.

A fertilizer spreader for a compact tractor would be an awesome tool for those making wildlife food plots for fertilizing, liming, and spreading seed. They do not work well with powdered lime as it will tend to clump in the hopper, especially if wet or damp. This boom pole uses aluminum alloy as its main metal, giving us a lightweight feel with durability. The wide tube diameter means it can handle larger or heavier microphones without bending in any way. This is essential for many people, and I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used this boom pole. Whilst there are some big benefits of using a shotgun mic (depending on the recording scenario) there are some downsides to consider.Of course, there are occasions where this slips through the net and you can find lots of videos online of boom poles and boom mics accidentally slipping into view for a split second. In an earlier blog post, we established that one of the golden rules of audio recording is achieving a good signal-to-noise ratio, and that one of the best methods for doing this is to position the microphone as close to the sound source as possible. If your boom is too short, you will struggle to keep it out of the shot and possibly lose your job if you’re on a commercial set.

Its sturdy graphite design is tough enough to endure the rigors of road use while remaining lightweight and travel worthy. In a similar way, lavalier mics are commonly used for recording dialogue on television shows or interviews.A boom mic operator needs to be very dynamic on film shoots, particularly if shooting outdoors where the actor may be moving around a lot as they need to ensure the mic is kept in the right place the entire time to get a consistent sound. If the speaker’s head moves then the mic needs to follow. If the camera and actors are moving in the shot, things get more complicated. So it can be a good idea to rehearse the shot a few times, with the actors and camera op to coordinate movement. Managing the boom pole Get the best boom pole you can afford that will cover 90% of your required shots. For the last 10%, consider purchasing an additional pole now, or down the line in your sound career.
