The famed Samsung Odyssey G7 made this roundup without breaking a sweat. There’s very little that can match this monitor for sheer performance, and as its price slips ever downwards, it’s becoming dangerously good value as well. All that translates into a picture that's very comfortable to look at, and of course very sharp. We tested the monitor with office applications, movies and games, and had no complaints – this is one of those products that isn't best in class but that's perfectly good for most people, and that's reflected in the price. We've seen panels with brighter, more vivid, more accurate colours, for example, but they're also going to cost you more.
The new monitor offers two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort connection, and four USB 3.2 Type-A connections. Additionally, AOC has included a USB Type-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt and USB Power Delivery up to 65 W. AOC Q27P2CA is also equipped with dual speakers. The AOC Q27P2CA has a refresh rate of 75 Hz, color space coverage of 126.5% sRGB, 108.4% AdobeRGB, and 100.8% DCI-P3. AOC states a response time of 4 ms (GtG) and Adaptive-Sync support to synchronize the refresh rate of the monitor with the frame rate of the GPU and to achieve a smooth display. It is 100 x 100 mm VESA-compatible and has a 3.5 mm headphone connection and an ergonomic stand. It can be used to adjust the height of the displays by 150 millimeters, rotate them by 90 degrees (pivot), and tilt and swivel them over a wide range.Overall we think the AOC U27P2CA gets that balance just about right, and we'd recommend it to anyone looking for a 4K office monitor that covers all the basics, especially if connectivity and versatility are important. Sometimes monitors can be very good without being spectacular, and that's the case here – it's a monitor that you'll be able to rely on for years to come. Also consider The biggest issue, however, is simply that this monitor doesn’t take full advantage of its resolution. For office work, I’d recommend a panel size of 32in or above to make the most of those extra pixels: at those sorts of sizes, the 4K resolution really comes into its own, allowing you to squeeze more in on screen much more comfortably than on a smaller display. Given that AOC’s own U32P2CA fills that niche nicely, however, it’s hard to see where the U27P2CA fits in. Of course, the stand doesn’t make the monitor. Fortunately, the UltraGear Ergo performed well on test, producing 139% of the sRGB colour gamut and 99% of the wider DCI-P3 colour gamut – which means exuberant colours across the board. It’s reproducing these colours accurately, too, with the colour variance score (Delta E) never exceeding 2. Contrast and luminance are a touch less inspiring, but at 858:1 and 378cd/m² respectively neither one is particularly dire. Just don’t expect anything much from the monitor’s HDR mode.
Panel technology: As always, IPS LCD panels are the most common kind. IPS panels have decent contrast, great colours and viewing angles and generally higher response times. Some gaming manufacturers use nanoIPS variants with even better colours, though you will pay more for the privilege.There's an argument to be made that a 4K resolution doesn't make a whole lot of difference at a 27-inch size, but Windows and macOS will scale their interfaces accordingly. We spent several hours writing up this review on the monitor, with no eye strain or fatigue at all. The AOC Q27P2Q is a FreeSync monitor, but it also works flawlessly with Nvidia’s G-Sync Compatible mode. Most productivity monitors do not offer Adaptive Sync, so this is a big bonus in our books. Many professional users are now accustomed to using their laptops to work from almost anywhere. However, most would also agree that working on a small laptop display is not as efficient as working on a large screen. The productivity gains achieved by large panels and high resolutions are immense, as users can open multiple windows and multi-task. Unlike a laptop display, working on an ergonomic desk setup with a height-adjustable monitor results in a healthier and more comfortable working environment, which is equally important. There’s one more similarity to note between the two panels, but it isn’t a flattering one. Like its sibling, the U27P2CA has a tendency to wobble a bit on its stand. It’s not awful by any means but if you spend a lot of time typing you will notice it bobbing away in time.You will occasionally find 1440p VA LCD panels, particularly if you’re looking for cheap gaming monitors. These offer fantastic contrast and good colours but weaker viewing angles and higher response times than IPS. Build quality for the AOC Q27P2Q is great since there are no signs of weaknesses or cosmetic defects once it’s out of the box. The plastics feel durable enough to last a few years, and the monitor itself feels sufficiently reinforced when fully assembled. The stand doesn’t wobble, so you can type vigorously without getting dizzied by a shaking screen.
It also has four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports (two on the side, two on the rear), a USB-B 3.2 Gen 1 port and a USB-C 3.1 3.2 Gen 1 port capable of carrying a video signal and supplying 65W of power to a connected device simultaneously. In keeping with everything else about this 4K monitor, the on-screen menu is business-like and functional. It's operated via four rather sombre and utilitarian buttons on the bottom edge of the display, giving you control over input selection, contrast, brightness, colour temperature, the picture-in-picture mode, and plenty more besides. It's all very straightforward and simple to operate.There’s no doubt that a 1440p monitor is the best choice for most people, whether they intend to work or play on it. WQHD or QHD monitors are getting cheaper by the minute, and if you’re hoping to do some gaming, they – unlike 4K and ultrawide displays – don’t require an extraordinarily powerful GPU to make the most of them. The BenQ Mobiuz EX3210R is an incredibly solid 32in curved gaming monitor with good credentials and an even better price tag. This 1440p, 165Hz VA monitor performed well on test, delivering a wide gamut of colours accurately. Contrast and brightness are both good, although the entry-level HDR 400 certification is best ignored – you won’t notice much of a change. But that’s okay: this is a vibrant monitor, and an immersive one too, thanks to that aggressive 1800R curvature. As I’ve already mentioned, the stand is also pretty appealing. That 150mm of height adjustment is great for a monitor at this price and, combined with the other adjustment options, should keep you in perfect posture at all times. The same is true of the port selection: I’ve tested a few monitors that compromise here, settling for either a USB-C port or a USB-A hub, so it’s a real joy to see both. I’m particularly fond of the two USB-A ports mounted on the side for easy access. HDR: High dynamic range can have a huge impact on the colours and shades of your favourite game or movie. You’ll see a lot of 1440p gaming monitors with DisplayHDR 400 certifications (or similar) – this is the most basic form of HDR available. The number indicates the maximum brightness (in nits) of HDR content on the monitor in question.
