About this deal

You may immediately be drawn to the most recognisable Tonies such as the ones based on Julia Donaldson book characters like The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. These are brilliant, but they are only around 16 minutes in length, and you actually get better value for money in terms of the amount of content with some of the other Tonies. There you have it, my Toniebox review! If you have any questions please do drop them in the comments below!

Below is my Toniebox review focused on using it with a toddler (1 – 2 year old). Coming with a hefty price tag, here are my honest thoughts on whether the TonieBox is really worth the money.

Currently popular on idealo

The Toniebox has an impressive 7-hour battery life, which means it’s a great travel companion. I only charge the TonieBox once a week and most of the time it’s dotted around Olive’s room or in the car. If you’re wondering whether the Toniebox audio player would make a great gift for your child I can tell you that having had this cool toy for over four years I would recommend it. The makers of Toniebox say their product is for ages three and up. However I would happily have one for a two year old or younger, with the proviso that you would always want to supervise them with the speaker and Tonies characters.

Another benefit of a Toniebox is that it’s portable so it’s great for long car journeys, travelling or taking out and about with you. Tonieboxes come with a charging point, but can be easily lifted off this so kids can cuddle up with the Toniebox wherever they want to get comfy.A Toniebox is a square speaker that can be paired with small painted figurines called Tonies that have preloaded audio content, such as audiobooks and music. Plus you can create your own custom content – whether you want to record granny reading a book for your kids or your children singing their favourite song. Both Yoto and Tonies do state the recommended ages for their content, but I think Yoto is a bit better at an accurate age recommendation. Per another post regarding Roald Dahl's "The Witches" I do agree that it is a parents'/guardians' responsibility to confirm that content is appropriate prior to allowing children to have access, but we don't always have that kind of time to spare. (The 4 year old started scream/crying the other day, traumatized over a Sophia the First episode.) Because the audio content comes on very cute and fun figurines shaped like favourite characters this makes it no only easy to find the story or songs they want to play, but it also adds to the fun. The Tonies become little action figures, and friends, that the kids love to play with. If you have more than one Toniebox in your household then you can control them all from the same app. Tonies are the characters you can place on top of the Toniebox speaker and they contain audio content. Once they’re placed in the square on top of the Toniebox that content will load up onto the speaker, and your child can listen to it all the way through or skip along chapters as they wish.

The Toniebox is a cute little padded speaker that pairs with colourful modern and classic characters to provide a wonderful story-telling experience for kids. I have 3 Tonie boxes, 1 Yoto, and 1 Yoto mini; my nieces that basically live with me are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2. It's a topic that a LOT of parenting discussion forums have been dedicated to. But honestly, it goes down to personal choice and in some ways, even though they're always compared and you'd be unlikely to have both, they're quite different toys. It's fair to say that the Yoto has some more features, but for us the Toniebox's simplicity was key for younger children to understand and use. Tonies have also just brought out a podcast tonie, which brings it more in line with some of the functions of the Yoto too.We have amassed quite the collection of Content Tonies since buying the Toniebox just over a year ago, and one thing I’ve noticed is that the quality of the Tonies do vary.
