La Virgen de Guadalupe, 10 September 2014. Fuji X-T1, f/2.8 at 1/125 at Auto ISO 500. full-resolution. What's new | How it compares | Body and handling | Image Quality | Autofocus | Video | Conclusion | Scoring | Samples | Full specifications The Fujifilm 27mm lens is smaller than the lens hood of my kit lens! I’d never haul around the other one on my daily jaunts. The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR is not a macro lens, with the close-focus point at 34cm from the sensor plane and a maximum magnification of 0.1x. Bokeh This lens is made much better than expected for a tiny, weightless and relatively inexpensive lens, with lots of metal.

The Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 ASPH is a fantastic little lens. It does everything I'd need it to do with superb optics and tiny size. I often prefer fixed lenses over zooms. Alas, the 40mm pancake re-invented for digital, again. Fuji has done a nice job in having a 3rd party build a compact lens and f2.8 is nice. Besides being purpose-built for digital, the good thing about this lens is the same as every other pancake lens ever invented. Its a small lens that is good enough in most other aspects. Its a compromise, that is all. What little barrel distortion there is can be corrected for more critical use by plugging these figures into Photoshop's While it may not be an especially exotic lens in terms of focal length or aperture, the small size and weight of the XF 27mm F2.8 R WR gives it plenty of appeal. It also produces very good results with an excellent level of detail throughout the aperture range. This Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8 is a tiny perfect-normal (41mm equivalent) lens that works on Fuji's X-mount cameras. On the flipside, a lens with an angle that is too wide makes everything really tiny, especially if you can’t get close enough. Then suddenly a beautiful butterfly lands in front of you, but it looks so small through your lens that it’ll be indistinguishable.

What a great little lens! Unless you’re shooting wide open at f/2.8, you can expect corner-to-corner sharpness. The lab tests reveal some fall-off, but not enough to be obvious in real world shots. Even wide open, edge sharpness is pretty good. Lens sharpness has nothing to do with picture sharpness; every lens made in the past 100 years is more than sharp enough to make super-sharp pictures if you know what you're doing. The only limitation to picture sharpness is your skill as a photographer. It's the least talented who spend the most time worrying about lens sharpness and blame crummy pictures on their equipment rather than themselves. Skilled photographers make great images with whatever camera is in their hands; I've made some of my best images of all time with an irreparably broken camera! Most pixels are thrown away before you see them, but camera makers don't want you to know that. Nature, architecture, people – this lens is great for the wide variety of subjects you’ll encounter on your travels.Unlike the original version, the Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR lens now has a traditional aperture ring on the lens barrel, which allows you to set the aperture in 1/3 steps, complete with full aperture markings running from f/2.8 to f/16. Not having an aperture control on the lens takes some time to get use to and I don’t love how the front element telescopes out when focusing close. However, those are forgivable features and would be even more forgivable if the lens was less expensive, which brings my to the only real problem I have with this lens – the price. It’s a little high for a pancake lens especially for on that’s not weather sealed, so you might want to wait for this one to go on sale. This camera is the cheapest one you can use with Fujifilm’s X series lenses. The results are 100% thanks to the Fuji glass. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 3" (7.5cm) wide on your phone, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 11 × 16" (0.9 × 1.3 feet or 25 × 40 cm).

Bokeh, the feel, character or quality of out-of-focus areas as opposed to how far out of focus they are, isn't that great, but nothing every gets that far out of focus, so don't worry about it. Manual focus is by-wire, meaning the manual focus ring is merely an encoder that talks to a computer that moves the lens. Unlike some of the competition, Fujifilm does not currently offer an 'Animal Eye AF' mode. No problem, we photographed Belvedere using a single point in AF-C. When used on the X-mount cameras in their 1:1 square crop mode, it sees the same angle of view as a 95mm lens sees when used on a 6x6 cm (2¼"square) medium-format camera. This is about the same as a 50mm lens sees when used on a 35mm camera.

Dynamic range

equivalent is the Perfect Normal because while full-frame 50mm lenses are often too long and 35mm lenses are often too wide, you'll discover that 41mm equivalent is always perfect. Bravo, Fujinon! For more critical scientific use at 30 feet (10 meters), use a correction factor of +0.8 (minor barrel distortion) in Photoshop's

These are just snapshots; my real work is in my Gallery. These are all shot hand-held as NORMAL JPGs; no tripods, FINE JPGs or RAW files were used or needed. On the other hand, the focus ring is pretty negligible. It’s just as slim as the focusing ring on the X100V, so it’s kind of hard to use comfortably with manual focus, but it turns smoothly and is nicely dampened. I would have liked to see a tab or lever or something that protrudes from the focus ring to help with manual focus, but most people are probably not utilizing manual focus with this lens unless absolutely necessary. (Side note: you can actually buy an external focusing tab attachment on Etsy that might make this more comfortable if you deem manual focus a necessity with this lens, or just want a more rangefinder-style experience.)habitat! This lens gives you that, beautifully. Photo taken with Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 Fits everything in – naturally
