At the junction with the A67, an underpass would carry the new eastbound carriageway with two new slip roads accommodating traffic travelling to and from the east. These new slip roads would provide access to and from the A67 and Bowes The first pipes have been laid in a new 57km water pipeline, which will support supplies to more than 200,000 people across the North East.

This is a 1.9-mile single carriageway section which is sandwiched between existing dual carriageway sections to the east and west. A key feature of this route is the current junction with the A67 which is currently only accessible to traffic to and from the west. At the same time within the same road closure, we will also replace bridge joints on two bridges which carry the northbound link roads over the M1 motorway.
The machinery we use to carry out this work is noisy, and we will try and carry out the noisiest part of this work early in the shift, where we can. The work will started on Monday 3 July 2023 and will be carried out during the night between 8pm and 6am, working between Sunday and Friday nights. The project will be complete by winter 2023. During the overnight closures local signed diversions will be in place.

A1(M) junction 53 Scotch Corner is an existing grade-separated junction on the A1(M) to the south of Darlington. The signalled roundabout junction serves the A1(M), the A66 and the A6055 and provides access to Scotch Corner Motorway Service Area. The existing layout is considered to have sufficient capacity to help with future traffic growth so only minor improvements are needed. As the A66 heads north, the A67 leaves at Morton Park to head east past Dinsdale and Durham Tees Valley Airport before joining with the A135 in Eaglescliffe. From there it heads south through Yarm and Kirklevington before joining the A19 road at Crathorne.
