About this deal

Leah is an attorney who has been placed on leave after yelling at a client. She decides to visit her sister's resort in Italy where her 21-year-old niece Amy died the previous year. Leah has been avoiding dealing with the death and now wants closure and to say her goodbyes, although the circumstances surrounding the death are not exactly what they seem. Evans, Greg (2017-01-14). A dead body is discovered in the pool at the resort, Laila thinks she knows the truth about what has happened. she realises that everyone is under suspicion. However, it becomes clear to Laila and James that they are not the only ones who have secrets. But, secrets have a way of coming out......and they will come out in the end.Thank you, Random House UK Vintage, CL. Pattison and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of “The Guest Book” in exchange for an honest review. I thought the ending of the book was very satisfying. There were a couple red herrings along the way. All of the loose ends were tied up nicely but not in a way that seemed too “happily ever after”.

I have to say I was pretty excited for this book and was reading it in pretty much the perfect setting but it just missed something for me hence why I’ve gone for the 4 rather than 5 stars. A great storyline and characters that intrigue you but I think I was expecting a bit more of a busier book if that makes sense. It’s set in an ultra luxury hotel but it was as if the characters mentioned and the staff were the only people staying at the resort whereas my nosy nature wanted to know more about more people and maybe have more potential suspects… Laila thinks she knows the truth of what happened. But in telling Em what she's seen, she stands to lose everything she holds dear.Metcalf, Mitch (September 22, 2017). The way Heidi has written and described the venue really makes you feel like you are on holiday with the characters, especially as Laila (like me) is a people watcher! A man works up the courage to pull the nuclear option on his marriage only for fate to get in the way and sets him on a new path. There's also a third point of view, that of Amy from the past as the events leading up to her death are revealed.

I ended up liking this book, though I had trouble getting into it for the first quarter or so. The story is told from 3 POVs: Amy (in past tense), who we know has died in a suspicious drowning accident; Leah, Amy’s aunt who is grieving and looking for answers; and Joanna, a young woman who initially is seemingly unrelated to the other storylines and is reeling from a surprise breakup with her long term boyfriend. The storylines eventually converge in a satisfying way. When they arrive at the 5* hotel they meet a couple who has two teenage sons. Laila likes people watching and spends most of her time watching the couple and their two sons. Her husband thinks she is jealous as they have two kids, and she has none. But instead of them both rekindling their relationship and what else as she got to do when her husband James goes off on trips on his own leaving his wife behind. This was my first book by Helen Cooper and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The dual points of view and how they intertwined together was excellent. The story has plenty of twists to keep you hooked and entertained. I could not predict the ending, but I really enjoyed it. Helen Cooper is clearly a skilled writer and I would be happy to read her future books. a b Metcalf, Mitch (December 19, 2018).
