About this deal

When they reach Thule, a massive battle ensues. While the other Jedi battle the Separatist forces outside the Sith Temple, Anakin enters the temple and destroys the Dark Reaper. The game is split up into two segments: vehicles and third-person Jedi fighting. The single-player campaign is played from the perspective of jedi Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace Windu, who pilot vehicles and ride animal mounts. The vehicle segments involve most vehicles from the Star Wars universe: STAPs, tanks, AATs, AT-XTs, and Republic gunships. The controls used involve primary and secondary fire, acceleration and a special ability that changes from vehicle to vehicle. The Jedi segments use basic lightsaber slashing and two force powers, which rely on a force power bar, lightsaber throw and force push. In all instances it is played from a third-person perspective. Skywalker and the other prisoners are doomed to be killed by the Force Harvester, an ancient Sith weapon that drains the Force from all living things within its range. Anakin is able to escape his cell and call for help. The Republic arrives, rescues Anakin, and destroys the Separatist presence on Alaris Prime. And of course, something that a lot of Star Wars titles miss out on are the multiplayer aspects, but not this time. LucasArts did it right with Clone Wars, as players will have tons of different gameplay modes, environments, and Episode II-based vehicles with which to challenge a fellow Star Wars lover. Although its difficult to reproduce the intensity of the raging single player battle within the confines of a two-player grudge match, the various modes are still quite fun and deserve the play time you'll give them. You can read more about them in our hands-on impressions.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a powerful saga of heroes coming together to save the galaxy, and this game is no different," says Z-Man Games head Sophie Gravel in a press release. "Our cooperative Pandemic System helps bring iconic Star Wars characters and stories to life - with our Jedi needing to combine Forces to stand a chance against unending waves of Separatist troops. Players will be on the edge of their seat with every playthrough as they fight for victory… and bring balance to the Force.” One month after the Battle of Geonosis, the Republic detects unusual activity on Raxus Prime, and sends a strike force led by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to investigate the activity. But as mentioned, all of these graphical touches, onscreen enemies, and blazing fast skirmishes come at the cost of its framerate. And truthfully, for a system as powerful as the GameCube, such framerate drops are not warranted by the level of eye candy displayed throughout the levels. Although realistic, the models are not overly detailed to the point of being impressive in any way. Animations are somewhat rigid, especially for human forms such as soldiers and droids. A lot of the models tend to have a generic, blandly shaded look to them, and the horizon is typically clouded with that ever-present wall of fog under which the landscape is drawn into your surroundings.

Regardless of the conveyance at your disposal, you'll be up against lots and lots of enemy droids in every level, and they make for great cannon fodder, just like in the films. The game's 16-mission campaign isn't very long, but it does take you to a number of different Star Wars worlds, from the dusty Geonosis seen in Episode II to Kashyyyk, the woodsy home of the Wookiees, and almost all the missions are fairly different from one another. That's not to say the missions are totally surprising. Some are all-out battles against lots of enemies, some are desperate races away from or to certain points, some require you to defend convoys or installations for certain periods of time, and some are rescue missions. The weakest aspect of the aural bag comes with the spoken voice acting. While the actors themselves do a decent job of performing their on-screen counterparts appropriately, the compression is easily the most noticeable in these parts, and especially when the lines are layered on during a battle sequence. For a typical Cube owner, this kind of compressed audio is nothing new, but to seasoned PC, Xbox, or even PS2 gamer, the tin can voices will be a distraction. Again, the level at which this distraction hinders your gameplay experience is inversely proportional to your inbred level of Star Wars infatuation. Bramwell, Tom (November 25, 2002). "Star Wars: The Clone Wars (GC)". Eurogamer. Gamer Network . Retrieved August 14, 2014. In multiplayer mode, a character greatly resembling Bail Organa is playable, and wields a lightsaber. This would indicate that the character is a Jedi, although Organa isn't one.a b Edge staff (December 25, 2002). "Star Wars: The Clone Wars (GC, PS2)". Edge. No.118. Future Publishing.
