About this deal

As on the Samsung LSP7T, the navigation through USB files seems graphically outdated but it has the merit of being effective if not aesthetically appealing. Too bad the DTS audio format is not supported on this input. There’s also a well-tuned balance, ensuring that all parts of the range are easy to hear with nothing too booming nor too bright. The top-end is marginally less developed than the bottom, but it rarely detracts from the action. FEATURES: Ultra-short-throw lens (with 0.25:1 throw ratio); 70in-120in image size; laser light engine; 10W built-in sound system; 20,000-hour claimed lamp life; claimed 32dB fan noise in Eco mode; MEMC motion compensation; vertical

The single-chip DLP solution used here warrants 2160p status through ingenious mirror-flipping; it's not native 4K as such. But what we have is an 8million pixel-dense picture with no visible structure – it's smooth and filmic, and completely convincing when viewed wall-sized. Connections: 2x HDMI (2.0, ARC), 3x USB (1x media, 1x optional WiFi, 1x power supply), 1x optical digital out, 1x RS-232c However, when projecting in a dark room or in the dark, the BenQ offers an equally satisfying experience, with a better color balance right out of the box in Cinema mode when the lamp is set to eco mode. BenQ V6050: conclusion It's worth noting that the projector doesn't recognise Dolby Digital Plus, so bear that in mind when hooking up your source components. This all-in-one merely requires a regular stereo feed.

This projector offers impressive picture quality for TV shows and movies, in a living room-friendly design and at screen sizes with which TVs cannot compete—up to 120 inches (diagonal). Among UST projectors, what stands out is the image fidelity, which approaches what I'm used to seeing from pricier dedicated home theater projectors. It could soon be time to trade up from your trusty flatscreen to an ultra-short-throw projector, if this flagship BenQ model is anything to go by. While conventional beamers require room to project, UST models are far more versatile, and with the V6050, BenQ has produced a premium cinema solution able to turn practically any space into a jaw-dropping 4K theatre.

Typically, the Cool color temperature on a projector is just that, much bluer than 6500K. But much to my surprise, Cool on this projector consistently measured within a few degrees of 6500K off my UST screen and is highly neutral at all brightness levels, from deepest shadow to peak highlights. It was spot-on on my sample, to the point where a grayscale calibration was not even necessary. And perhaps most impressively, the switch from Native to Cool color temperature only drops the peak luminance from 110 nits to 108 nits! This projector gives up essentially none of its peak brightness when delivering what qualifies as an adequately calibrated picture right out of the box.The beamer brand pulls out all the stops with its UST 4K model. Time for some WALL-E, suggests Steve May

DLP video projection technology is known to provide greater accuracy and superior image sharpness to LCD projectors, be it with Sony SXRD, Epson Tri-LCD or JVC D-ILA models. This is mainly due to the fact that the interstitial space between the micro-mirrors of DMD chips (one mirror = one pixel) is much smaller than that between the pixels of an LCD array. Moreover, LCD technology uses three LCD arrays (one red, one green and one blue) each crossed by the luminous flux of the lamp previously separated by a prism. The three luminous fluxes are then brought together before passing through the lens. This system requires perfect alignment of the three images generated by these three matrices, the slightest shift having an impact on image quality, especially its sharpness. The BenQ V6050 delivers an impressive, large image after only a few minutes of setup. The picture is very bright, thanks to a peak output of 3,000 lumens, and the geometry and uniformity are also excellent. The single-chip nature of DLP ensures sharp and detailed images, and the automatic focus works extremely well. The various calibration controls allow for limited fine tuning of the already reasonably accurate SDR picture BenQ exclusive HDR-PRO™ technology enhances the 4K HDR viewing experience. HDR-PRO offers greater contrast range to bring out every detail. The auto HDR colour mapping produces deep colours true to the HDR10 and HLG* standards, pulling you into the emotion of every scene. Motion Interpolation (MEMC) We’re not convinced that the BenQ V6050 is bright enough to replace your living room TV, but it certainly has plenty to offer. The big and bold picture is reasonably detailed, colourful and enjoyable to watch. The built-in sound system could be described in similar terms.

Conclusion

The BenQ V6050 ultra-short throw 4K laser projector is particularly appealing because of its cinematic image that works wonders with HDR content. The colors are accurate and balanced, the contrast is high enough to provide good readability, and the sharpness of the image, although perfectible, remains satisfactory. Obviously, it delivers its best performance in a half-lit room or even in full darkness with a very convincing cinematic image. Once the room is completely dark, the BenQ V6050 delivers an absolutely s Once the room is completely dark, the BenQ V6050 delivers an absolutely stunning cinematic image. The V7050i features five SDR picture modes—Bright, Bright Cinema, Filmmaker Mode, DCI-P3, and User. It also sports two HDR picture modes, HDR10 and the Filmmaker Mode found on some other projectors these days that optimizes the image for compatible movies. It also offers four Color Temperature presets (Native, Cool, Normal and Warm). Finding the optimum combination of these two settings is key to getting the most out of this BenQ.
