Hi Jim, I have tried using an Asus RT-AC68u as an AiMesh node, connected to an RT-AC5300 (main router). Although it “works”, performance is terrible. I then bought another RT-AC5300, and connected it as an AiMesh node (and removed the 68u). Now, performance is top notch! The only thing I don’t like about the AiMesh system, is that Guest SSIDs are only available from the main router. Also, I was considering buying a few MR2200ac units as the satellites. Presumably then I should buy a higher-specced unit as the main unit, and connect each MR2200ac satellite to the LAN port of the main unit? Which main unit would you recommend (i.e. RT2600ac, WRX560, RT660ax)? ReplyAfter a chat with support I learned a few things. They claimed that for my size house (900 sq. ft ground floor, 800 sq. ft 2nd floor), two satellites were overkill and that one satellite was “interfering” with the other. Support suggested that I turn one off. I thought I was doing the right thing as my house has plaster/lath walls and its like living in a Faraday Cage. Support said that one satellite was able to manage 1500 sq. feet. I am pretty sure that refers to 1500 unobstructed sq. ft.
