About this deal
Please note that this feature is in beta / testing stage and is currently in development based on user feedback. How do you feel it compares with using a free app on a smartphone such as Seeing AI (iOS) or OptiVis Daily (Android and iOS). Using OrCam I was able to scan the left page and the right page of a book with high speed and accuracy. It is possible to carry around a small external battery charger while you use OrCam, but this defeats the purpose of a self-contained unit, in my opinion. In the February 2017 issue of AccessWorld, contributing author Bill Holton briefly took OrCam through its paces, and came away from that experience fairly impressed.
Whether OrCam simply didn't like something about my home network, or I was not pointing the camera at the QR code properly, the process was not successful. It is possible that I wasn't always looking in the right place, something that is always a possibility when using OrCam. This OrCam MyEye 2 is a huge step as a tool for the Visually Impaired toward furthering their independence. This technology uses Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to help you find specific information in any document faster than ever. I’m seriously considering getting the My Eye which does everything Seeing A I does but more discretely than waving my iPhone around. It is my understanding that some people use this feature to identify phones, credit cards, and about anything else you can think of. As mentioned above, since I only had one OrCam training session I thought it prudent to check in with another, more experienced user. Magnifiers aren’t impossible, but it can be time consuming to scan full pages and actually get to the information that you need. It is the most sophisticated and efficient reading device available for people with low vision, dyslexia or other reading difficulties. We stand behind everything we sell, and our foremost goal is to help you achieve greater independence.
