About this deal

The author seemed more interested in the history of Alcatraz than providing more discussion on the escape attempts. I've always loved Alcatraz - I find it holds such incredible history so just hearing stories about how the inmates lived and the different escape attempts was incredibly interesting.

In the eerie days after the storm, he traveled the flooded streets in a secondhand canoe, passing on supplies and rescuing those he could.I would recommend it for a middle school library due to some vocabulary and brief mention of violence. Framed as a traitor and a murderer and sent to Alcatraz as a result, you must escape the forbidding, top-security jail, recover the lost evidence and stop the pollution and land sale before it's too late. Some of the interesting facts in this book are overwhelmed with the poor book report style used throughout. When this happened, the other three men left his raft that they had made out of raincoats behind for him in case he figured out how to escape later.

It covers all the intricacies of their plan for escape and everything authorities have done since to try to close the case. Finally, the author has investigated many ideas offered to prove or disprove that the men survived and escaped. The federal prison system is just one example of an environment in which political expediency, fear, limited resources, and human frailties interact in unpredictable ways. The concept behind the methods at Alcatraz was that the super-maximum-security prison was a place for incorrigible criminals who did not belong in the outside world—and never would—and so were unworthy of any effort to guide them on a path to redemption. Although it is titled escape from Alcatraz, it's really the history of Alcatraz as a prison system and everyone that came through it.Campbell Bruce wrote Escape from Alcatraz, a chronicle of escape attempts over the lifetime of the prison that focuses especially on one notorious episode in June of 1962. Campbell Bruce chronicles in spellbinding detail the Rock's transition from a Spanish fort to the maximum-security penitentiary. Very interesting information, but the writing style unfortunately is not as polished as one may have hoped, and I think the book needed a better copy editor to clean up its prose.
