You know, I’ve never been into poetry, for some reason I just can’t seem to get into it, but the slams in this series are just so POWERFUL that you can’t help but “feel” them. The thing is after Slammed and POR they are together, this is not a spoiler, this is something you know when you start this book.

And for a perspective character, Will's narration is extremely whiny, lust heavy, and NOT an authentic male voice. Sure, we knew what an impact these characters had had on us and how much they had become a part of our lives but being reunited with them again after a year was like meeting up with old friends and every minute spent in This Girl took us back to that moment when we read Slammed and Point of Retreat. Nothing can explain the moment when the woman you would give your life for sees her daughter for the very first time. But before starting This Girl, I didn’t have time to reread either of them and I wondered if I’d be able to connect to it as strongly as I did to the first two. The dialogue was just amazing, the kids… Kel and Caulder were butterflying perfect, and the poetry my God, the POETRY was BRILLANT.

I love all her past work beyond 5-stars (I status-ed Hopeless to the ever living annoyance of my friends). This is probably the most un-Colleen Hoover book I've read (and I've read a few that try to emulate her) and save for the first chapter and the last 25%, Will just alienated me so much. This Girl reminded me of watching bonus materials on DVD of my favourite movie - you know what is about to happen, you know how it is going to end but you just cannot get enough and you want more, you want deeper insight into the story and characters. I normally hate the same book/different point of view thing this genre tends to put out, but CoHo mixed it up and included a bunch of new in with the old. What I loved about this book are the ones that were already in Slammed (Layken's 'Schooled' poem still left me a bawling mess), the break up scene with Vaughn, the fact that I got to near-buddy read this with nearly everyone in my feed and every damn scene Julia was in right to that last, gutting star. I have no doubt that would've been something I picked up, even if I didn't care so much for the first two books in this series. I have the overwhelming urge to pull her up out of her chair and kiss her in front of everyone, then scream my resignation at the top of my lungs. The ones where you’re transported back in time to a moment you want to relive because it left a mark on you. If a refund is payable to you we will process the refund as soon as possible, and, in any case within fourteen (14) days.
