About this deal

Chip Zdarsky's Batman run starts with Penguin killing the people of Gotham who were born in extreme wealth. It’s kind of a boring read, but at least Batman is still being a hero by actively trying to solve problems. ow did an angry, damaged young man grow into the most accomplished detective and crime-fighter the world has ever known?

Failsafe is an action-packed and visually breath-taking high-stake survival story pushing the psychological and physical limits of the Dark Knight against an almost invincible fail-safe. In short, Batman has always been the rock that thinks circles around everyone he knows, but such high standards are not mentally healthy in the long run and he's falling behind after staying ahead for so long.SO it starts with Batman stopping Penguin's plans but what happens when he kills himself and frames Batman and then a failsafe activates and thus we have one of the new best threats in DC in quite a while and I love the way he battles Batman and how it involves even Superman and the Justice League and my god those entrance pages were so awesome and this story is so action oriented and I love the fast paced nature and just seeing Failsafe defeat the league and what Batman does to stop him was insanely cool, my god so many high moments in the story and then the ending battle just brilliant and leads into the next story arc so well! The current arc so far is derivative and filled with melodrama, and the action hasn’t been particularly good, as you can see in my fight breakdown in my previous review. While the beginning was incredibly strong, the reason for Failsafe being fully activated this time was lame, and it got waaaay too over the top after a while. com, the series received generally favorable ratings, with a Comicscore Index of 75 based on 114 ratings from critics.

I expected more personal take on Batman from Chip Zdarsky, not a "Batman vs forgotten super robot built by Batman with so much power he can beat anyone in any universe with one finger in his robot ass". This leads to him botching the development of his contingencies, leading to them being hijacked or otherwise corrupted as it damages every relationships he has by endangering his friends and family. The scene in the late part of the story where Batman manages to find his way back to Earth (without benefit of a spaceship) was a bit much to accept. He has seen upcoming outlines, and has been able to work with them, suggested ideas and be a cheerleader for the new Daredevil team. It's a very Daredevil-esque design (which may be an intentional Shout-Out, as Zdarsky was winding down his Daredevil run over at Marvel at the time). The Reveal: Issue 135 reveals that the Arkham Series Batman ultimately survived the Knightfall Protocol, going completely underground but still implicitly operating as Batman. Henri Ducard explains that Hubert Glonet is part of The Foundling, serial killers targeting wealthy families. BUT its the art of Jiemenez which should get the most credit as he makes each page look like a million bucks and so worth it and ugh I can't praise it enough! While Zdarsky does touch on that in the early issues of this story arc, he downplays it in favor of the action story.

Considering Chip Zdarsky has been doing wonders with his current run on Daredevil, it is only a matter of time before he was going to tackle Batman, who is the closest DC analogue to the Man Without Fear. Zdarsky's story also references previous stories where Batman's contingency plans puts him at odds with his friends. Meanwhile, fans are edgy for Zdarsky’s take on other Bat-characters, like Damian Wayne, Talia al Ghul, and the newly created Ghost-Maker.

Following his battle with Failsafe, the Dark Knight is transported to a darker Gotham City that never had a Batman. For example, Batman goes to a Justice League base on the Moon, fights the robot, and then somehow survives falling from the Moon to the Earth! The 10-issue limited series, written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Carmine Di Giandomenico, began publication on January 18, 2022.
