About this deal

The flashlight was provided by Nitecore for the review, but I always try to give you my genuine experiences and opinion, it is why most companies stopped sending me flashlights.

Frontally, on the left, we find the LED with depth beam (Spotlight) which reaches the maximum power of 1800 lumens with a maximum range of 202 meters and a maximum intensity of the peak beam of 10,300 cd. For the complete management of the Nitecore HC68 I am attaching the address of the user manual: https://flashlight. There’s three switches on the HC68 – one on the side (power), and two on top for adjusting the brightness/spot/flood/cycling through aux modes. Beyond 60 months, a limited warranty applies, which covers labor and maintenance costs, but not the cost of accessories or replacement parts.A note on this though – it requires 9 full turns to unscrew the cap to its limits, and the first few times you do this, it may be quite tough. On the two sides of the HC68 we find 2 caps; seen from the front on the left we find the USB-C charging port (written "OPEN" with arrow and USB symbol) together with the ON / OFF switch, while on the right there is the cap to unscrew for housing the 18650 battery included in the sales package. As you can see, the headlamp reaches cool 52degC and starts to reduce brightness, reaching 49degC at 10 min and stabilising at 543lm. All modes tested were above their rated specs, except for Turbo – but we’re talking a matter of 100 candela, or just over 1m difference between 8500 and 8600 cd.

In the centre of the main LEDs there are two red auxiliary LEDs that offers a constant red output with high/low setting and a red flashing setting. The power button feels quite solid beneath the cover, but the two on top have a little bit of a “mushy” feel. The new Nitecore headlamp has a maximum power of 2,000 lumens for an intensity of 10,300cd and covers a maximum distance of 202 meters.Just like the tailcap that does come off, the threads here are anodized, fine, very long, and smooth. The HC68 is an 18650 powered headlamp, with 2 SST-40-W LEDs: one under a flood optic, and the other under a spot optic. I did not like the complicated user interface (UI) in some steps, although I appreciate the side switch with only the ON / Off function and quick activation of the Turbo level. As mentioned above, all of these sit behind a custom TIR with one SST40 being pure flood, and a more narrowly focused TIR for the “spot” mode.

The spot mode still has a little too much flood, but that’s due to the physical constraints of a short TIR, so for what it is, it performs above expectations. Much to the amusement of my wife, I proceeded to walk around the house fiddling with the Nitecore HC68 in all manners of practicality and silliness. The special, blinky modes should have been left out of a headlamp that already has alot on it’s plate. Reveal the port by unscrewing the USB cover on the right side of the torch and then simply plug the included cable into the charging port and the other end into a suitable USB power source. Nitecore HC68 features ATR technology (advanced temperature regulation) which adjusts the light output according to the working conditions and the external environment to maintain optimum performance in safety.
