About this deal

FanatasticLand is a 2016 thriller novel written by Mike Bockoven , taking the premise of Lord of the Flies and having it take place in a Expy of Disney World. So, read this book for the killyness and bloody fun, but then get on Google and check out the Florida crime memes. Like a lot of the reviewers, I had an issue with suspension of disbelief up until about the halfway point.

There was a group of employees - like a couple hundred - who became stranded there without rescue after a hurricane for a month and all hell broke loose. There’s just a small skeleton crew made up of employee volunteers there to keep the park standing, and they have plenty of food and clean water to survive on. Meta: As noted above the book has been described as Lord of the Flies tranplanted to Walt Disney World Disney World]]. With no help quick to come their way, the isolated individuals organised themselves into groups and attempted to assert some sense of social hierarchy into their new community.A video was released of the National Guard entering the park by one of the soldiers for money and was dishonorably discharged. The only reason he left was because the Warthogs ended up using the place to commit their murders and began to stalk him. I've just read the whole description on the Goodreads page, and I think the idea of this being a novel which 'probes the consequences of a social civilisation built online' is overemphasised. it's told as a series of interviews from survivors, rescuers, people evacuated before it all went down, lawyers, the park's owner, etc. These two narrators are beyond good and I think this is one of those rare cases where the audio might be elevated by the voicing of the parts.

Kids are getting their hands cut off but let me just mention how annoyed Sally is because she can't check Facebook". Greeting them are decomposing bodies strung up on light posts, carnage everywhere, the smell of death and decay, and blood, lots and lots of blood. I LOVED the format, and it made the audio that much more entertaining, because you get so many different voices and perspectives of what went down, and you get the classic variations that come from different people telling the same story, and I honestly didn't care that it all seemed a bit far fetched. Each interview, with various "survivors" and other people who were either directly or peripherally involved with this horror show, give you more information about what went down, and it is chilling. Irony: The deteriorating situation in FanatasticLand wasn’t the result of poor preparation on the CEOs’ part but rather an abundance of preparation. Disaster and isolation ratchet up the tension, and a theme park descends into mayhem that is both engaging and thrilling. It’s not a bad life, but when one of the group members goes astray, it sets in motion a series of events that will threaten to destroy the delicate balance that has kept Dave and his clan off the radar.
