About this deal

With a single metal ring replacing the two (one metal, one plastic) originally attached to the camera, the Tough E-Mount should (according to the manufacturer) eliminate any movement between camera and lens. I don’t crop photos usually and get them framed perfectly in camera, as with 12MP you don’t have much cropping room (this is where a higher MP camera makes a better choice). The newly developed processing engine, the BionZ XR processor, is 8-times faster than ANYTHING currently used by Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras. My guess is that it would be more than a 2 stop difference that shows itself in the normal lab test because of it being engineered for a better light source. Working with studio flashes is perhaps the main reason I still have a Canon kit in addition to my M43 gear.

It'll then open/close the aperture to your selected aperture when acquiring focus, unless it thinks it needs to open it up b/c it's too dark, or close it down b/c it's too bright (to avoid saturation). The first time is used the camera on assignment, I didn't know how to change this setting and the view finder was almost completely dark. We took to the streets for some portraits and shot a few macro photos for this first installment in our sample gallery. It’s another excellent option to go with the two we have (which, given the A7II announcement, are eventually headed for updates).

I’m going to try to keep this review brief, as the A7s shares a great deal with the A7 and A7r that I’ve already reviewed. There’s really only one lens that’s targeted towards video for the FE mount cameras at the moment, and that’s the Sony 28-135mm f/4 power zoom (with gear-friendly rings).

may not be utilized, directly or indirectly, to inform, train, or improve any artificial intelligence program or system.

Battery has been noticeably less efficient with the a7s and I’m pretty sure it has to do with the silent shooting mode. I agree with the conclusion that pixel size may not matter as much as the engineering of pixel for that size of sensor. Since the church I photographed in had screens you could see that happen in the background, which wasn’t too thrilling. stop wide dynamic range, and a double stabilisation system all supported by a larger battery capacity than ever seen before.

The Sony a7S steps around these pitfalls, offering both focus peaking and zebra highlight warnings to help videographers get footage that lives up to the cameras' capture capabilities (you can, however, purchase external monitors that can show the same information on other cameras). There is a setting to turn off exposure preview so the EVF stays bright, even though the exposure is for the flash and the subject is lit with modeling lights or the room light many stops lower. Focus peaking enabled + the quality of this EVF makes shooting with my manual leica lenses very easy and it give me confidence to shoot at wide open apertures.

So let me say this: I’ve got a closet full of lenses, and I’ve tried many of them via mount adapters on mirrorless cameras, including the A7s. Most of my work is documentary style, also news features, and I work in small crew usually no more than 3 people. Frankly, I hear a lot of folk talking smack about that option, but when I look at what people are actually shooting, well, the drawbacks of using adapted lenses quickly have many of those same folk moving most of their shooting to native lenses. This is where the a7s really out performs all the other cameras I have, since it enables me to accurately focus on stars that I cannot see with my eyes in the sky with heavy light pollution. As for 6) The APSC video is actually pretty good for 1080p and some say that for 50/60p it is better to use APSC than FF I think.Sony A6000 has a setting for Liveview to just leave aperture wide open or not, I can't imagine the A7S doesn't have it. I’ve had a lot of people ask me if it would be replacing my D4s cameras and the answer to that is – of course not. With the A7s I have low light and video champ, while with the A7r I have a landscape workhorse that produces pixels galore. Not the end of the world however and it doesn't change Dpreviews excellent findings - especially since Sony will have a mega-megapixel FF camera coming soon for landscape photographers. There’s also the Sony a7S II, which is the latest and adds IBIS and direct in camera 4K video recording (1st version has 4K but you must have an external source to be able to utilize it).
