About this deal

Cocker Colours Examples of colours in Cocker Spaniels Cocker Spaniels come in a vast array of different colours - collected here for illustration purposes is a series of photos showing examples of most of them (both show and working type dogs). Butler says: Combining my love of colouring with my favourite ever breed of dog was always a win/win. I have a blue roan working cocker who was one of a litter of chocolate, black, lemon and 2 x blue roan. If the mother's colouring is a recessive colour, and the sire's colour is dominant over that, then the pups will show the sire's colouring but will be 'carrying' the mother's recessive colour which may show up in their own litters.

Blacks carrying liver, red in either variety of pigment, golden and of these, those which may or may not carry the gene for tan mask and trim, may appear to be black but may sometimes show a touch of "rust" in their coats. brown, chocolate and liver are all exactly the same colour, so why not just have one term for the same colour? Cocker coats are luxurious and silky, no matter what colour their coat is, and they may take a bit of looking after, but they're worth it! From my understanding, chocolate/tan and white means a mostly chocolate and tan dog with a splash of white (less than 20% I think).A mixture of most solid colours and White, so the varieties are Black and White, Liver and White, Orange and White and Lemon and White. We are a small team of artists so we have a variety of different styles, you won't get bored unlike some other repetitive books. Unusual colours, markings and patterns were viewed with the great suspicion that a misalliance with a dog of another or mixed breed must have occurred.

lets not bother about the colour i think breed for a good temp, no one wants a grumpy puppy do they. You can pick black, white, tan, blue, brown, red, silver, and roan – which is a pattern of speckled colors under white fur, while the head is fully colored. The Kennel Club have recently amended their colours for registering cocker spaniel puppies and have removed the popular Chocolate and Tan colouring from their approved list of colours. Dark brown or brown, never light, but in the case of liver, liver roan and liver and white, dark hazel to harmonise with coat; with expression of intelligence and gentleness but wide awake, bright and merry; rims tight.

The term "open-marked" is used where there are no ticking or roan markings in the dog's coat; instead, the fur will have clear white between the coloured patches. If the kennel club do not have the colour as one of their 'accepted list of registered colours' a puppy who is chocolate and tan cannot be registered - which is my point. Undocked: Slightly curved, of moderate length, proportionate to size of body giving an overall balanced appearance; ideally not reaching below the hock.
