All that said, the Hoover H-Upright 500 Plus remains a decent cleaner and the Automatic mode is useful.It's mediocre on hard floors, particularly laminate, where it tends to push dirt around rather than remove it. I also like the fact that Hoover are offering free replacement parts for 10 years (subject to their engineer fitting).

If you have pets, then Hoover has a Pet version of this cleaner (model number HU500SBH 001) that adds a mini motorised brush into the mix for cleaning pet beds and sofas. You can access the motor by unscrewing the screws on the back of the vacuum and lifting off the cover. It will slow the brushes down for hard floors to minimise the risk of damaging them or scattering debris, then the speed picks up on carpets for deeper cleaning. Hi I recently bought a second hand Kenwood chef titanium KM010 mixer and have just purchased a cutting knife as an attachment - ref AT640. It’s decent enough on carpets, but struggles on hard floors and loses suction power as the canister fills up.Powerful, yet quiet, it has great suction, cleans carpets perfectly, revitalising the pile to look like new.
