But there is something I don't really understand, usually Denji just did whatever Makima told him to do, but then in the middle of this volume, Denji turned against her and fought the other Devils sent out by her to hunt him down? I don't really understand this change of heart. Makima is a menace to society. Her master plan of manipulation is finally bearing fruit and it’s pretty insane. Chainsaw Man has transformed into a surrealist bizarro fiction nightmare and the story has gotten surprisingly complex and thought provoking compared to where it started. Denji was a small-time devil hunter just trying to survive in a harsh world. After being killed on a job, he is revived by his pet devil Pochita and becomes something new and dangerous—Chainsaw Man!

After Volume 9’s big reveal, this was quite the spectacular follow-up. Although Makima’s scheme is a bit generic for a supervillain, it still fits. Since they showed Denji still having some human qualities of his past life, it’ll definitely come into play next volume to wrap things up.Having been forced to kill a friend, Denji finds that his brain has turned to mush from despair. Without the motivation to keep going, he seeks help from Makima. But Makima is not what she appears, and Denji’s pain is only just beginning. •

Chainsaw Man, Vol. 10 by Tatsuki Fujimoto | Waterstones

Denji's a poor young man who'll do anything for money, even hunting down devils with his pet devil-dog Pochita. But his life gets turned upside down when he's betrayed by someone he trusts. Now with the power of a devil inside him, Denji's become a whole new man—Chainsaw Man! Denji was a small-time devil hunter just trying to survive a harsh world. After being killed on a job, Denji is revived by his pet devil-dog Pochita and becomes something new and dangerous—Chainsaw Man! It's crazy how this just keeps getting better even as it leaves the rails and launches directly into space . . . to the moooooooooon!!! It's like one of those YouTube videos that starts with cute puppies jumping and swarming all over the place . . . then jump cuts to a hideous, blood-soaked clown lunging at you with a knife and a blood-curdling screech. The Japanese series title and English author name are a bright, dirtied yellow. The volume number, volume title, and Japanese author name are a dull pink. The English series title is white. Makima is depicted standing in front of an open, dull-colored metallic door, with a wall of bright red on the other side. Makima is facing forwards with her body turned almost perpendicular to her face, and with her right hand pointing forwards in a gesture reminiscent of one of her 'Bang' abilities. So… Makima, as revealed in the last volume, is incredibly powerful as she can control anything and anyone that she feels is lesser than her. Her ultimate goal, as aforementioned, is to control Chainsaw Man to make the world a better place. For this, we have to look at what Chainsaw Man really is. Josh (or J.J. as some have come to call him), is a long-time geek culture enthusiast with a deep passion for anime, manga and Japanese culture. Tatsuki Fujimoto 藤本タツキ (Fujimoto Tatsuki) is a Japanese manga author, mostly known for Chainsaw Man.

Volume 10 | Chainsaw Man Wiki | Fandom

The Chainsaw Devil has a special property about it. Whatever the devil eats, its memories from the world, even their names, get erased. Makima figures that if she can control Chainsaw Man, she could erase things such as war, hunger, and other things that have plagued humankind. Well, as I said, that sounds noble but it would involve a lot of killing and, thus, could lead to a diminished world that would leave Makima in control. All of this stems from Aki’s death, too. Aki’s death left Denji in a bad mental state. He can’t take pride in much of anything anymore. Makima ends up using this to her advantage and agrees when she brings Denji home and he requests to make him one of her dogs. She even breaks Denji’s mind even more after inviting someone over with the intent to bring Denji to a mental state to help her efforts in controlling him. Despite this, Denji gets free and decides, in Chainsaw Man form, to go to Family Burger, eat some food, and kidnap Kobeni to go out on a date. This shows that even in his current form, he still has some of his old desires and there’s still a bit of him leftover in there. I’m sure that will come into play in the final volume.
