Description

This is another coffee that, unfortunately, you are going to have to think about how you are going to store, as it just comes in a bag, but this coffee deserves the effort to keep it fresh. You would never call this a ‘specialty’ coffee, especially as it is widely available in most supermarkets, but whether you are a recently converted coffee drinker, or a bit of an expert, this is a coffee that won’t let you down. As one of the lowest priced coffees on this list, we’re struggling to think of a reason not to buy it. The result is an incredibly enjoyable, medium roast, full flavoured coffee. There is no bitter aftertaste, this produces a drink that is as smooth as silk and will satisfy any palate. Coffee bags seem to be a quality alternative, more tasty than instant coffee and less fuss and bother than a fresh brew. No mess, no waiting around – you can boil a kettle, dunk a coffee bag and have nice cup of joe in your hand within a few minutes. Add to this their eco-friendliness, and you start to see why coffee bags are becoming more popular. Coffee connoisseurs step this way, next up we have Illy Classico Medium Espresso Coffee Paper Pods. The Italian brand of choice by many a discerning drinker, the Illy pods are suitable for vegetarians and offer a distinctive flavour.

Owned by Nestlé, and the biggest direct buyer of coffee in the world, it’s fair to assume Nescafe knows a thing or two about producing the dark stuff that gets us through the day. To add to the mix, these pods are brought to us by Costa Coffee, a brand that coffee lovers are familiar with. Liberica: Liberica beans are rare and rarely used but lovers of this bean swear by it and will specifically look for Liberica-based drinks. They tend to have a smoky, fruity flavour. They can be very inconsistent, both in terms of flavour and shape and size, which can make it difficult to get a consistently good-tasting cup of coffee from the Liberica bean.

Clean, easy to use, pre-portioned, and environmentally friendly, coffee bags are billed as a handy (and tasty) alternative to a fresh brew. They resemble tea bags, but, as you would expect, the little heat-sealed material bags contain ground coffee instead of tea! Thankfully, making a cup is as easy as 1-2-3:

There are a variety of flavours available, from Indian to dark roast, Columbian to light roast. We’ve already mentioned that using two pods will give you a more robust flavour, and after you can add milk if you like to make yourself a latte or cappuccino if you fancy a different flavour. This Spanish espresso blend is a relative newcomer to the UK market, but we are sure that it is going to make a big impact. Whilst I wouldn’t forego every trip to my local coffee shop in favour of drinking a Lavazza Gran Espresso, I would be happy to supplement my visits with a few cups of the blend! So, does this espresso blend manage to deliver classic Italian flavour? I like the depth of the coffee; it has plenty of body and the smooth crema adds to its charm. I also savour the spiciness, and there’s definitely more than a hint of chocolate there (I should know – I am verging on being a raging chocoholic myself). If you’ve never seen an easy serve espresso (ESE) coffee pod you might imagine it to look a bit like a small plastic cup (the word pod conjures up that image). However, an ESE coffee pod actually resembles a teabag, but instead of tea, you will find coffee inside. Before we get into it, we need to discuss how you store your coffee. Freshness is everything, and you need to take this into account. You will have noticed, however, that of all the different coffees that we have featured above, most of the ‘big hitters’ in the coffee world weren’t included. In fact, used coffee bags can actually prove advantageous to the land. Coffee grounds are a great source of phosphorous, slow-release nitrogen (grounds contain around 2% of nitrogen), and organic matter. Simply spread the grounds around the earth surrounding your plants. The Verdict on Coffee Bags

Freshly ground coffee does have a very distinctive flavour, and you won’t get quite the same level of freshness from pods (as the coffee has been pre-ground before being sealed in the pod). That said, producers have put a lot of work and effort into ensuring they source high-quality beans, and employ roasting methods that bring out maximum taste. What if you were in a hurry to get to the office in the morning, or you had to deliver an espresso to your spouse’s bed? Insert an ESE pod into your coffee machine, press a button, and in a few seconds, your lovely espresso will be in your hands. VALUE ⪠1KG Roasted Coffee Beans | Enviromentally Friendly | Cutting Waste Goal | Affordable Price The quality of the water you use in your coffee can greatly affect its taste, and that’s why we offer a range of water filtration solutions to ensure that your coffee tastes its best every time. Similarly, some people buy coffee bags instead of ESE pods just because they are cheaper or get confused by their shape and colour, and they can’t use these coffee bags in their coffee machine; they lose their money.Price wise, you are paying more for coffee bags. There doesn’t seem to be a great deal of rhyme or reason to the mark up – typically there’s not much of a gap between the price of loose-leaf tea and tea bags. However, loose coffee grounds are cheaper to buy than coffee bags. This could be down to the fact that there’s still a bit of a novelty factor attached to coffee bags, and not as many are produced. Perhaps this will change over time – if coffee bags become more of a mainstay in the market. The Key Benefits of Coffee Bags
