The Appellation Cognac Fine Champagne Contrôlée (Cognac Fine Champagne registered designation of origin) is ascribed to cognac of which the eaux-de-vie are exclusive to Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, with a minimum of 50% Grande Champagne. Our dream is to rejuvenate the world of Cognac, and to get rid of the tweed and cigar image that has been associated with the spirit for so long. This original VSOP blend is the reference of the house of Rémy Martin - the pure, authentic essence of Cognac Fine Champagne. The villages of Verrières and Ambleville are two exceptional communes within the heart of the Grande Champagne area of Cognac, in an area known as the ‘Golden Belt’, which has been home to François Voyer for more than 5 generations. It is incomparable in its sheer depth and intensity of flavour, its fruitiness, warmth and complexity and both its richness and subtlety of bouquet.

This appears to be the most likely source for the word, although we’re sure there will be some who have other ideas (and please do get in contact, if you know something more about it). These often coincided with areas that had a predominantly chalky soil, such as the Grande and Petite Champagne terroirs of the Cognac region, and the growth areas in Northern France where the sparking wine, Champagne, is produced.Remy Martin is renowned as a specialist in Fine Champagne Cognac which must be composed of at least 50% Grand Champagne, with this expression holding the honour of being the biggest-selling VSOP cognac worldwide. On the palate: a rounded, well-balanced cognac with multiple layers of ripe fruit and subtle notes of liquorice. Remy Martin VSOP is a unique cognac composed of over 240 eaux-de-vies, sourced from some of the most renowned and sought-after vineyards, aged between 4 and 14 years.

To be designated VSOP, the youngest brandy in the blend must have been cask-aged for at least four years. In your finest wine glass, pour 50ml Rémy Martin VSOP over ice cubes, top with tonic water and finish with a clean cut lemon wedge. There are six growth areas–or “terroirs”–in total, and the two that are considered to produce the finest eau-de-vie are named Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. If you compare the soil of the Grande Champagne to the Petite Champagne, you’ll find that the soil is less airy and more compact.

A complex cognac with exceptional depth of flavour, Rémy Martin VSOP brings you an enticing bouquet of vanilla, dried rose petals, white grape and ripe apricot, with an undercurrent of sweet berries and a touch of truffles, rounded out with warming spices that evoke the spirit of Christmas.
